Jev vs OpenAI Decisions
Teams often approximate “decisions” with GPT JSON mode or structured outputs. Jev is purpose-built for decision primitives with calibrated scores, not a general chat model forced into JSON.
Where Jev is stronger
- Native Choice / Score / Noul primitives
- Pricing and latency aimed at decision volume
- Less prompt gymnastics for stable labels
Where the other side wins
- One vendor for generation + tools + embeddings
- Richer language understanding for messy free-form asks
- Ecosystem maturity and enterprise contracts
Use Jev when
- You already know the label set and need QPS
- You want calibrated noul/score without parsing
- You are building agent routers and gates
Prefer the other when
- You need one API for everything including writing
- Labels are undefined and need exploration
- Procurement requires a single frontier vendor
Which should you use?
If the job is a bounded decision, Jev is the clearer fit. If the job is “figure it out in language,” stay on a generative API — or combine both.
Developer deep dive
“OpenAI decisions” in practice usually means chat completions + JSON schema / structured outputs / function calls that emulate a classifier. That works, but you own prompt versioning, schema retries, and calibration. Jev’s Choice / Score / Noul are first-class: criteria maps for enums, score axes, and proposition probabilities. You still must design good labels — Jev does not invent your taxonomy — but you stop treating a generative model as a faux decision engine. If your OpenAI stack already centralizes auth, logging, and compliance, keep generation there and add Jev only on hot decision paths where QPS and typed confidence matter.
Cost and latency
Structured GPT calls still consume generative pricing bands. Jev decide pricing is tuned for classification volume; on this independent host, prepaid input packs start small so you can A/B a real router without a large commit. Benchmark both on the same fixtures: label accuracy, p95 latency, and $/1k decisions.
Hybrid pattern
Keep OpenAI for tools, embeddings, and drafting. Insert Jev for gate/router questions with stable enums. Mirror the same fixtures in CI for both paths so a schema change fails the build. Try templates free (no signup) on /tools/, then ship with jv_live_ on /api/v1/decide.
